Hezbollah released a statement expressing congratulations on the occasion and reaffirming loyalty to the “blessed path” and steadfastness on the line of guardianship.
The group entered the conflict in the Middle East on March 2 by launching rockets at Israel, claiming the action was in retaliation for the death of Khamenei. In response, Israel conducted widespread airstrikes in Lebanon and penetrated border areas in the south.
The Assembly of Experts in Iran announced earlier this week the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader, succeeding his father Ali Khamenei. Ali Khamenei was killed during the initial stages of the US-Israeli military operation against Tehran on February 28.
The 88-member council stated in a declaration that during the special session, and based on the decisive vote of its members, Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed as the “third Supreme Leader” of Iran.
This announcement came hours after US President Donald Trump declared that any leader chosen by Iran “would not last long” unless he agreed with him. Additionally, Israel warned that any successor to Khamenei would be a confirmed target for assassination.
