Leaders Donald Trump and Keir Starmer discussed the situation in the Middle East, placing special emphasis on the urgent need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The two leaders agreed that reopening the strait represents a fundamental necessity for the stability of the global energy market.
This conversation took place following a video posted by the US President on his platform, Truth Social, which featured a scene mimicking a television comedy sketch. The clip depicts Starmer appearing anxious and attempting to evade a phone call with Trump. In the sketch, Starmer’s character is shown in a state of panic at 10 Downing Street, fearing a potential confrontation.
The character, portrayed as being in a state of panic, turns to a deputy and asks what to do if Trump yells at him. When the call begins, Starmer’s character hangs up immediately, wondering how to address the “scary and cool president.” The deputy advises him to tell Trump the truth: that they cannot send more ships to the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway closed by Iran. Starmer’s character responds by saying he wants to keep Trump happy and claims he can change him.
Relations between the two leaders have seen significant friction. Trump previously attacked Starmer at the start of the war, accusing him of failing to support the United States and questioning his leadership abilities. While Starmer initially refused to involve Britain in the conflict, he later agreed to the American request to use two British military bases for a “limited and specific” defensive purpose.
