خاصالمتحدث باسم الخارجية الفرنسية: التصعيد يهدد استقرار المنطقة

The French spokesperson stated that “this war was not something we wanted and was deep outside our wishes,” confirming that Paris is pushing towards halting the use of weapons and opening the door for political solutions. He explained that France views current tensions as linked to the threats posed by Iranian behavior in the region, emphasizing the need to address Iran’s responsibility for the instability it creates.

The spokesperson emphasized that the priority in the current phase is to stop attacks and move toward dialogue, stating, “It is simple… Iranian strikes and attacks must end, because their continuation threatens the balance and stability in the region.” He added that Paris calls for a comprehensive approach to dialogue with Tehran covering multiple files, including the nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as Iran’s role in regional stability.

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the spokesperson condemned any attempt to close the waterway as unacceptable, affirming the commitment to freedom of navigation. He noted that France is coordinating with European and international partners to ensure maritime and energy security, stating that the response includes multiple levels, including coordination with partners and protecting maritime movement.

While enhancing its military presence in the region, France insists the goal is primarily defensive. The spokesperson confirmed that deployments include Dassault Rafale jets, air defense systems, and naval frigates, aimed at protecting allies. Despite these measures, he stressed that Paris does not seek to engage in the war, stating, “France is a country seeking peace and is not part of this war,” adding that threats related to the Iranian system can only be addressed through diplomacy.

The official affirmed that France is conducting contacts with various parties to lower tensions, aiming to bring them together around a table to convince them that escalation harms regional stability. He highlighted the link between Gulf stability and the global economy, noting that “this situation can affect the global economy, and therefore regional stability is an international priority.”
