The Attorney General of Sudan participated today in a security coordination meeting for Khartoum State chaired by the Governor, where she was briefed on decisions issued under the Emergency Law and measures taken to secure the state amidst the ongoing war.
The Attorney General emphasized the necessity of visiting prisons and detention centers to inspect the conditions of detainees. She also announced that the National Committee for investigating violations of national and international humanitarian law will open its office in Khartoum within the coming days to begin its work. Additionally, a decision is expected regarding the seized stolen goods held by state security agencies.
The meeting reviewed security reports indicating an improvement in the criminal situation and a decline in crime rates. Security forces executed successful operations resulting in the arrest of a gang involved in forging banking application notifications. The committee also highlighted the security cordon implemented in East Nile, which led to the seizure of devices and stolen property.
Regarding economic security, the committee approved the procedures and preparations taken by the Central Bank and commercial banks in the state to launch the currency replacement process for the 1000 and 500 Sudanese pound notes. The measures include facilitating the opening of bank accounts and organizing citizens’ movement within banks. Security forces are being directed to reinforce protection for banks and service locations.
Furthermore, the committee confirmed that the plan to secure the High School Certificate exams is proceeding well, with no incidents reported so far. Finally, the committee renewed its call to citizens to refrain from burning trash to avoid potential fire damage.
