The army announced that a night raid in southern Syria destroyed a weapons depot belonging to the Islamic State group. According to the army, the target, located in the village of Beit Jann, contained large quantities of weapons, including firearms, mines, and other military equipment. The operation included a ground incursion by an Israeli force aimed at identifying and destroying the combat depot, according to the army spokesman. The army released a video showing the air raid followed by ground operations conducted by Israeli soldiers.
The Israeli attack came months after an armed clash between elements of the group and Israeli forces in the same village during an arrest attempt, resulting in injuries to several Israeli soldiers, some critically. The announcement of the operation followed one day after Israeli special forces arrested a prominent member of the Islamic State group in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army stated that the group has advanced during the war and continues to seek to carry out terrorist operations against Israel and its citizens in the northern sector. The army has previously accused the group of close cooperation with Hezbollah and Hamas in both Lebanon and Syria, as well as possessing military sites in southern Lebanon and infrastructure along the Syrian-Lebanese border and in southern Syria.
