Israeli officials believe that US President Donald Trump remains interested in negotiating with Iran, although they also perceive that his patience is running out. Following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington and his meeting with Trump, US Senator Lindsey Graham, a close ally of the president, is expected to arrive in Israel next week. Graham is expected to advocate for a hardline stance, including the overthrow of the Iranian regime, having met with the Mossad chief and Netanyahu during his recent visit.
Netanyahu is scheduled to hold a security meeting on Sunday to discuss the latest developments regarding Iran and the details of his recent visit to the United States. President Trump previously stated that the deployment of the second aircraft carrier strike group was made “in anticipation of our failure to reach a deal.” Reports indicate that the world’s largest aircraft carrier, the “Gerald R. Ford,” has been ordered to move from the Caribbean Sea to the Middle East. The move is aimed at increasing pressure on Iran to reach an agreement regarding its nuclear program. The carrier is set to join the “Abraham Lincoln,” which is already stationed in the region, along with three missile-guided destroyers that arrived more than two weeks ago.
