In this context, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt asserted that the American public supports entering a war with Iran, despite poll results indicating otherwise. Leavitt stated during a press conference that President Donald Trump believes the American people stand behind him on this decision. She further remarked that the President is confident the nation is “smart enough to get past many fake news headlines” that portray the action as unjustified.

However, multiple polls have shown widespread opposition to the war. A survey indicated that 54 percent of Americans oppose entering a war if it were to last several months. Additionally, reports indicated that advisors to the President are working to mitigate political fallout resulting from mixed messages regarding the conflict with Iran.
