The spokesman for the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, described a report by an American newspaper claiming that Russia is sending Iran satellite imagery and advanced drone technologies as “fake news.” The newspaper cited sources stating that Russia has expanded military cooperation by sending intelligence and satellite photos to Iran, as well as enhanced drone technologies aimed at helping Iran target US forces in the region. The report indicated that Russia provided Iran with intelligence regarding the locations of American forces in the Middle East, as well as sites belonging to other regional allies of Washington. The assistance was described as similar to the support provided by the United States and its European allies to Ukraine in recent years during its conflict with Russia.
According to the report, the drone technologies transferred by Moscow to Tehran included upgraded components for Iranian-manufactured “Shahed” drones, with the goal of “improving guidance and targeting accuracy.” Russia, which has gained extensive experience in using drones during the war in Ukraine, provided Iran with advice on the number of drones to deploy in operations and the altitude at which targets should be struck. Days earlier, the American newspaper “The Washington Post” reported that Russia has been supplying Iran with intelligence on US military targets, including warships and aircraft.
In response, US envoy Steve Witkoff recently stated that Russia had confirmed to the administration of President Donald Trump that it does not pass on intelligence to Iran. However, Trump stated that he believes Moscow provides limited assistance to Tehran, comparing it to American aid to the Ukrainian army. In an interview with “Fox News” last week, Trump said: “I believe (Putin) might help them a little. Perhaps they think we are helping Ukraine. They are doing that and we are doing that.”
