Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to describe the media as “fake,” stating that they dislike reporting on the significant achievements of the US military against Iran. He wrote, “The media that spreads fake news hates to talk about the great results achieved by the American military against Iran, which was completely defeated, and wants to make a deal, but it won’t be a deal I approve of.”
Trump previously stated that “Iran is dying militarily” and that the United States would not accept anything less than surrender. He added, “The Iranians lost their military forces and their leaders, and then they wanted to negotiate, so I told them it’s too late.”
These comments follow reports that Washington struck military targets on Jask island, a major Iranian oil center, and announced that the US Navy will soon begin escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. However, as the United States continued its strikes on Iran, Tehran launched a new wave of attacks using drones and missiles against Israel and Gulf countries.
Earlier this week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that talks with the US remain unlikely and that missile strikes will continue as necessary. He told PBS News that he does not believe talks with Americans will be on the agenda, adding that Tehran has endured a “very bitter experience” in previous negotiations with the United States.
