He reiterated demands for Hamas to move into a stage of “complete and immediate disarmament,” considering this step to be the foundation for any security or political arrangements in the Strip.
The US President emphasized the necessity for Hamas to respect its commitment to disarmament completely and immediately before the first meeting of the peace council scheduled for Washington next Thursday.
Trump confirmed that implementing disarmament obligations and deploying international forces represent two fundamental pillars in the next phase of the plan, aimed at ensuring a safe environment conducive to a sustainable political settlement.
A ceasefire agreement is set to take effect in the Gaza Strip starting October 10, based on a proposal presented by the American President.
Disarming Hamas forms a core part of the second phase of the agreement, which the United States announced moving towards last January. This phase stipulates the gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Strip, the disarmament of Hamas, and the deployment of an international force to achieve stability in Gaza.
However, Hamas has repeatedly stressed its rejection of disarmament in the face of “Israeli occupation,” while some movement leaders have suggested the idea of retaining weapons on the condition that they are not displayed.
