Heavy airstrikes by the Sudanese Armed Forces forced a mass escape of the Rapid Support Forces from the city of Bara in North Kordofan state, bringing the city to the brink of returning to government control. Military sources indicated that the Sudanese Armed Forces are expected to enter the city within the coming hours after movements by the rebels, who had occupied the area for more than four months.
Mohamed Deidan, spokesperson for Private Forces in Kordofan, stated that the battle is nearing its end and the militia is facing collapse. He explained that with the continuation of silent strikes and crushing raids across the region, alongside widespread surrenders among the militia and a green light from the military leadership for a major ground movement, the situation is shifting decisively.
Sources added that the recapture of Bara paves the way for reopening the Bara-Omdurman export route and neutralizes threats to Omdurman from areas including Jebel Siyah, Um Saliya, and others. Historically, the city of Bara witnessed a cycle of control changes between the army and the rebels twice during the past year.
