Seif al-Islam Gaddafi was targeted in an attack south of Zentan city in western Libya. Libyan sources stated that four unidentified gunmen attacked him inside his garden in the Hamada area after disabling surveillance cameras, shooting him directly before fleeing. Abdullah al-Thani, the political representative and head of the political bureau, confirmed the death via a formal post.
Libyan media reported that the Attorney General has opened an investigation into the killing, while the 444th Combat Brigade denied any involvement. Political researcher Ahmed Al-Awwad analyzed the situation, describing the Hamada area as open and previously active with terrorist organizations such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda. He noted that since 2011, Gaddafi faced legal obstacles, specifically his wanted status at the International Criminal Court, which prevented him from running for elections. Despite having a large following, Al-Awwad pointed out that practical experience showed he did not succeed in municipal elections. He concluded by stating that he does not rule out any scenario regarding the killing.
