The British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated that a tanker captain reported that two vessels affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps opened fire without issuing any radio warning. The statement added that the tanker and its crew are safe, and authorities are currently investigating the incident without specifying the vessel’s identity or destination.
On Saturday, Iran announced the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz in response to what it described as the continuation of US sanctions, reversing a previous decision to reopen this vital maritime passage for global oil trade.
Earlier, British Foreign Secretary urged the full resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, confirming that the waterway has not yet returned to normal despite the ongoing ceasefire. Speaking at a diplomatic forum in Antalya, the official stated that the world is currently facing a “critical diplomatic moment” amidst the ceasefire, noting that navigation traffic through the strait remains below normal levels.
The Foreign Secretary emphasized the necessity of transforming the current ceasefire into permanent peace, considering the security of this strategic waterway an international priority for the upcoming phase.
