Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced that the Israeli military plans to establish a security zone within Lebanon upon the completion of current operations, indicating that Israel will maintain control over the entire area south of the Litani River. He added that the strategy involves creating a buffer zone in southern Lebanon, stating that approximately 600,000 displaced residents will be prevented from returning to their homes until the security of northern Israel is guaranteed.
The minister detailed that field operations will include the “destruction of homes in villages near the border” as a measure to prevent future threats. He also stated that the strategic goal is to “separate Lebanon from the Iranian theater,” aiming to reduce Hezbollah’s influence in the region.
These statements were made amid escalating military operations on the Lebanese front and growing discussions regarding post-war arrangements in southern Lebanon.
