Witkoff asserts that Iran considers uranium enrichment a non-negotiable right, while emphasizing that preventing such enrichment is a non-negotiable stance for the United States. He stated that Iran has informed Washington of possessing 460 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent.
Witkoff noted that uranium enriched to this level can be weaponized within a week or ten days. Senator Rubio stated that the U.S. will not allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons.
Former President Donald Trump claimed earlier this month that Iran would have acquired nuclear weapons within two weeks had the U.S. not initiated the current military operation.
Witkoff mentioned that a proposal was made on March 3rd to supply Iran with nuclear fuel from abroad in exchange for stopping enrichment, but this offer was fully rejected. He characterized the Iranian negotiators’ boasting about the 460 kilograms of 60 percent enriched uranium as a clear sign of Tehran’s intent to maintain military capabilities.
