Hakabi described Carlson’s actions as “unfaithful,” stating that he carefully edited his answers to create a completely false narrative. Hakabi added that he sent the full text of the interview to several regional Arab leaders following widespread criticism of his statements.
Regarding this context, Hakabi stated that he does not expect US President Donald Trump to penalize Israeli President Isaac Herzog for his view if he decides not to pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the cases he is currently facing. Hakabi told Yedioth Ahronoth that Herzog is a “good and decent man” who has the right to take his time to make a decision, despite Trump repeatedly asking for Netanyahu’s pardon.
On another note, when asked about the possibility of US strikes on Iran, Hakabi said Tehran should “look at the indicators.” He added, “Either they come to the negotiation table and act like civilized people, or the president will take a different decision.”
He continued: “They know what the United States can do through limited strikes,” referring to the “Midnight Hammer” operation last June, when the US launched a surprise attack and struck Iranian nuclear facilities at the end of the 12-day war between Israel and Iran. He added, “Imagine what they are capable of with the level of military assets they have gathered, which are currently in a state of readiness, deployment, and readiness to move.”
Arab countries have been reassured by the Trump administration regarding the fallout from Hakabi’s words.
