Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed the US decision to designate the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan as a terrorist organization with US President’s Senior Advisor for African Affairs Massad Boulos, stressing the importance of supporting Sudan’s stability and national institutions. During the phone call, Abdelatty addressed ongoing coordination between Cairo and Washington on regional files, including the situations in Sudan and Libya, the Great Lakes region, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Horn of Africa, and Egyptian water security. He emphasized the need for regional and international efforts to lower tensions and prioritize diplomatic solutions, rejecting any actions threatening Sudanese territorial integrity and calling for a humanitarian truce. Abdelatty also highlighted the need to facilitate humanitarian aid and ensure that state institutions are not equated with armed militias. Regarding water security, Abdelatty appreciated President Trump’s efforts and affirmed Egypt’s commitment to cooperation with Nile Basin countries based on international law, firmly rejecting unilateral measures on the river. Boulos commended Egypt’s pivotal role in regional security and political settlement paths, expressing eagerness to continue coordination.
