Donald Trump stated on his social media platform that the United States has achieved a “complete victory” over Iran in military and economic domains. He announced that Washington is ready to offer significant support to countries that will take responsibility for securing the waterway.
Trump noted that the effort should have been a collective endeavor from the start, but he emphasized that the world will now unite to ensure lasting peace and security.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Trump pledged to keep the strategic passage open “one way or another.” He warned that the US military would carry out extensive airstrikes along the coast and continue targeting Iranian vessels.
The former president stated that numerous countries would send warships in coordination with the US to maintain the strait’s openness. He expressed hope that major powers, including China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the UK, would dispatch naval forces to the region to ensure the waterway is no longer a threat.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that the US Navy, in collaboration with an international alliance, plans to escort commercial ships through the strait once military conditions permit.
Bessent explained that the escort plan will be executed once the United States achieves full air control and significantly reduces Iran’s ability to rebuild its missiles.
The situation stems from recent attacks by the US and Israel on Iran, followed by Iranian retaliation, which has exacerbated tensions in the region. The conflict has paralyzed navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting vital oil and gas flows from the Middle East and contributing to increased energy prices.
