Images reviewed by media outlets indicate that the Eagle 44 airbase in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province was targeted by US and Israeli aerial strikes, an operation previously unreported. The visuals reveal craters at the entrances of tunnels leading to aircraft storage, located beneath a mountain range.
The strikes appear to have obstructed access to the runway, trapping aircraft within the base, while also destroying a building associated with ongoing construction works. Satellite imagery shows small earth mounds placed on the runway, likely by Iranian forces to prevent the landing of hostile aircraft. Earlier satellite imagery from March showed new damage to the runways, while some tunnel entrances had already been targeted earlier in the conflict.
Construction of the underground base, situated approximately 160 kilometers from the Strait of Hormuz, began in mid-2013, with the runway established eight years later. Iran’s official media previously broadcast footage from inside the base in 2023, showcasing fighter jets and drones stationed there.
